Overview of digital camera. Part 1

Let’s start with the overview of typical digital single-lens non-reflex camera. As of reflex cameras we will familiarize with them in one of the next articles, but if you need some detailed information, you should consult highly specialized sources.

Digital cameras can be various by size and form (from ultra-compacts to highly-designed). But the difference among cameras is more evident if you look at them from behind. Every one has LCD live-preview, but their diagonal size varies from very small (3cm) to more widespread (6 cm).

For understanding the principles of work of digital camera, let’s consider one of the models of middle class, which however has many possibilities and functions. This camera has electronic viewfinder, which makes its work similar to reflex camera. Besides the electronic viewfinder this model has a majority of functions, characteristic for cameras in the value of less than 1000 dollars.

The digital cameras are very various, but each of them has some general required equipment. The arrangement of elements of control and of other components may be very different, so as the form of camera can be cubic or roundish. However all cameras must have detachable lens, optic or electronic viewfinder, LCD live-preview and set of buttons of control. Often the general view of cameras reminds the model given as an example.

In addition, many cameras have one or several slots for removable storage devices such as SecureDigital or CompactFlash, a built-in flash, fixed on the top of camera, a monochrome LCD-panel (in the digital single-lens non-reflex camera on this panel you can see the number of remained frames, current mode of photography and other information), a USB port for connecting the camera to the computer. The special socket for the tripod and IR port for wireless data transmission can also be included to the set with digital camera.
